A startup Rainforest Connection , criada pelo tecnólogo Topher White conecta celulares descartados às copas das árvores, em florestas tropicais, para captar os sons locais. Além da comunicação dos animais, como o canto de pássaros, são captados os ruídos característicos do desmatamento, tais como os sons de motosserras, que são identificados por um software específico, a partir do áudio bruto. Instalados em pequenas caixas acopladas a um sistema de geração de energia solar, também construído a partir de resíduos industriais, o modelo quer servir como um sistema de alerta para ajudar a combater o desmatamento ilegal, nas áreas de borda da floresta. A startup se propõe a ajudar a evitar as causas do aquecimento global, por meio do combate ao desmatamento e quer também criar um banco digital de sons da floresta, que podem servir para aproximar os moradores das cidades do ecossistema florestal ou servir de base para estudos e pesquisas, elaborados a partir da análise dos áudios captados. As “vozes” transmitidas pelos sistemas de celularess nas florestas ficam disponíveis, em tempo real, por meio de um aplicativo gratuito.

The Stack: Design and Geopolitics in the Age of Planetary-Scale Computing

Public lecture by Benjamin Bratton, on October 29, 2014 at the Simon Fraser University, Canada. From NSA surveillance to Jihadist social media and the Sino-Google Wars, computation has become more than a type of machine, it is a global infrastructure that is changing not only how governments govern, but what government even is in the first place. We need to take a step back and see a big picture that is different from what was predicted. A new kind of political geography is emerging before our eyes. We should view smart grids, cloud computing, mobile software and smart cities, universal addressing systems, ubiquitous computing and robotics not as unrelated genres of computation but as forming a larger and coherent whole. Together they constitute an accidental megastructure called The Stack. This is not only a planetary-scale computing system, it is also a new architecture for how we divide up the world into sovereign spaces. The Nation-State isn't going away but it is evolving into a Cloud platform, and perhaps vice versa. This poses extraordinary challenges for design and geopolitics. By seeing the whole we stand a better chance of designing a system we will want to inhabit. In this talk, we'll map The Stack we have and sketch The Stack-to-come. Speaker Bio: Benjamin H Bratton is a theorist whose work spans philosophy, art and design. He is associate professor of visual arts and director of the Center for Design and Geopolitics at the University of California, San Diego. Bruno Latour (6:33) speaks about the concept of sovereignty in connection with the work of Ulrich Beck and others and discusses his recent work on the mythological personage of Gaia in the contexts of globalization, climate change, the crisis in the European Union, migration, and other developments. Donna Haraway: "From Cyborgs to Companion Species"

Donna Haraway presented her lecture as the 2003-2004 Avenali Chair in the Humanities at the Townsend Center for the Humanities, UC Berkeley. Haraway is a prominent theorist of the relationships between people and machines, and her work has incited debate in fields as varied as primatology, philosophy, and developmental biology. Haraway's The Cyborg Manifesto, first published in 1985, is now taught in undergraduate classes at countless universities and has been reprinted or translated in numerous anthologies in North America, Japan, and Europe.

Seminar: "From Networks to Modes of Existence" Die Albertus-Magnus-Professur wurde an der Universität zu Köln im Gedenken an den mittelalterlichen Universalgelehrten Albertus Magnus (1193 bis 1280) eingerichtet, der von 1248 bis 1254 in Köln am Generalstudium der Dominikaner lehrte. Als einer der Begründer der Akteur-Netzwerk-Theorie zählt Bruno Latour zu den heutzutage einflußreichsten Denkern im Bereich der Sozial- und Kulturwissenschaften, der Anthropologie sowie der Wissenschaftstheorie und -soziologie. Latour untersucht in seinem weitgespannten Werk, das auf zahlreichen Feldstudien basiert, die rhetorischen Strategien und technischen Artefakte, die bei der Konstruktion wissenschaftlicher Tatsachen am Werk sind. Technik und Natur sowie das Soziale sind in einem Netzwerk wechselseitiger Zuschreibungen von Eigenschaften und Handlungspotentialen miteinander verbunden. In seinen Büchern untersucht er die Auswirkungen seiner Wissenschaftsstudien auf verschiedene Felder des Sozialen, der Religion und der Anthropologie, sowie der Umweltpolitik. Unter den zahllosen Auszeichnungen finden sich neben fünf Ehrendoktoraten eine Anzahl namhafter Wissenschaftspreise, darunter 2013 den Holberg Memorial Prize. 2013 hielt er die Gifford Lectures und 2014 die Tanner Lectures.

Nessa linha, blockchain também ganhou muita atenção e interesse como uma plataforma eficaz para melhorar a autenticidade e a transparência dos registros de saúde nas instituições e hospitais, desde a manutenção de permissões nos registros eletrônicos de saúde (EHR) até a racionalização do processamento das reivindicações dos pacientes.
